Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to receive my plate?

Once you place your order, we'll mail your starter pack within 5–7 business days. Your county will then process the plate registration on their normal schedule.

Where do I register my plate?

You'll take your starter pack to your local Tennessee county clerk's office. Each county will charge their own registration fees in addition to your starter pack purchase.

Do I have to live in Tennessee?

Yes — the In the Black license plate is currently only available to Tennessee residents. We hope to expand to additional states in the future.

Is this an official Tennessee state plate?

Yes. We partner directly with the State of Tennessee to issue the In the Black plate as an officially recognized specialty plate.
